# Installation for Outdoor Deployment

For detailed installation instructions, see the [Installation chapter](https://github.com/AethLabs/aethlabs-manuals/tree/main/gitbook/microaethalometer-tm-ma450/manual/installation.md).

{% step %}

### Pick installation location

It is always recommended to shield the instrument from direct solar radiation. The inlet port, outlet port, and all connections must be properly protected from the environment.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Mount the instrument

Mount the MA450 using the rear sun shield mounting locations
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Install inlet protection or sampling hose

Install the included MA450 Inlet Protection Kit or [Inlet Protection Kit (WPK-20-25)](https://github.com/AethLabs/aethlabs-manuals/tree/main/gitbook/accessories/inlet-protection-kit.md) or other appropriate inlet sampling train to protect against water intrusion, insects, and in-line condensation.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Route hose(s)

Carefully route all inlet and outlet hoses to prevent water from entering the ports.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Connect power

Connect the supplied 12V outdoor-rated power adapter to the sealed M8 circular connector labeled **12V DC IN**. If the optional built-in Nafion dryer is installed, also connect the second 12V supply to the connector labeled **DRYER 12V DC IN**. See [Powering the MA450](/microaethalometer-tm-ma450/quick-start-guide/03-powering-the-ma450.md).
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Be sure that the aerosol inlet to the microAethalometer™ is at atmospheric pressure and that there is no differential pressure between the aerosol inlet and the operating environment. If sampling from a plenum or chamber, it must be at the same pressure as the instrument. If other instrumentation is measuring in parallel, always use a dedicated sampling line for the microAethalometer™.
